Breastfeeding Begins at Birth | World Breastfeeding Week

This is the 25th year of World Breastfeeding Week!

"World Breastfeeding Week is a vibrant global movement for action to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding by anyone, anywhere, and at any time. It expands and connects the power of one with the power of many. Only by working together, can we make the change we need." (Dato' (Dr.) Anwar Fazal, Chairperson Emertitus, WABA & Director, Right Livelihood College) The event was started by  the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) to promote sustainable development via ecology, economy and equity. All of which begins at birth for each new life, family, and generation.

Did you know that birth and motherhood as a whole is one of the least documented parts of our collective history? The female body across cultures and generations are just now, really, being celebrated for its individual magnificence. After creating an additional organ and an entire other human being, women are also amazingly equipped to nourish their tiny humans! It's absolutely incredible, and to think it all starts with birth, a rite of passage, if you will, that transcends location, socioeconomic status, and race!

Please scroll through images shared with us by birth photographers across the world. This is the documentation of nourishing our young and that first latch.

Want to see more women just like you breastfeeding at different ages, in all different locations, and doing all the things mothers do? Check out PBAP, a wonderful project put together by one of our very own elite members, Leilani Rogers. Follow PBAP on Facebook.
